¡Viva ser bilingüe!

Thursday Edition

Empowering Dual Language Immersion educators with best practices, relevant research, classroom tips, and fun ideas that will inspire you into, through and beyond your teaching week.

¡Adios to the 2024-2025 School Year!

¡Felicidades! We've reached the end of the 2024-2025 school year! You have worked long hours, planned hundreds of lessons, and left your mark on another group of students in two languages! Now it's time to hopefully sleep in or at least have slower mornings, travel, or simply do things that bring you joy!

I want to extend congratulations to all who have graduated with a Master's or Doctorate! You deserve a special ¡Felicidades! because being a teacher and a student simultaneously is a lot. You are now among 7% of Latinos who hold any higher degree, and/or approximately 1% who hold a doctorate. And YOU DID IT!! Your continued expertise is much needed in the field of dual language education.

I also want to congratulate all in our community who have been promoted! We need more people of color in all areas of education, and especially in administrative positions. We need bilingual, bicultural educators in decision-making leadership positions! ¡Felicidades! on your new leadership role.

Our efforts contribute to the development of a multilingual, multiliterate, and multicultural society. Our work in dual language education matters greatly!

¡Viva ser bilingüe! will also take a break. Today will be the last Thursday Edition for this school year. We will be back on Thursday, July 31st, to launch the 2025-2026 school year. The Sunday Edition will continue until the end of June and return on July 27th.

Thank you all for reading the newsletter and for your support! I started ¡Viva ser bilingüe! almost two years ago, to bring pertinent information about dual language education to dual language educators on Thursdays on Sundays, we celebrate the bilingual, bicultural life because being bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural extends outside of our classrooms.

Cheers to us all!

and

¡Viva ser bilingüe!

End of Year Recommendations

This article from Edutopia is filled with End-of-Year activities to do with your students. Check out #4 Success Circles. This activity gives students a chance to share with each other their reflections on the school year. For our DLI students, I would add questions regarding progress in their new/newer language, such as How do you feel about speaking in Spanish now as compared to the beginning of the year?
